A well-balanced puppy needs safe socialisation right from the start. Happy, healthy puppies need plenty of playtime in a safe setting during their first year. At Elite Canine Club, we provide a nurturing and fun environment where your pup can get socialisation, education and exercise. We love and care for your puppy like they’re one of our own. Here’s what you can expect on their first day of daycare.
MEET & GREET
We will gather a comprehensive history of your puppy. We want to know who they are and what they like! Next, we will take your puppy to meet the other daycare dogs. We do a two-step evaluation without the pup parent on their free trial.
1. We will do an all-over touch test to see if they have any aversions to being touched in a particular area. In our homes there is a lot of interaction as you can imagine, so we just want to see how they respond.
The last portion is socialising him with a few pups from the playroom of different size, temperament, and energy levels. We introduce them one at a time from the playroom and watch his responses to the interactions.
OUR HOMES
Our homes are generally grouped by size, temperament and play style. When puppies are new to daycare, we try to assign days to suit yours puppy's needs, they may be placed on a small dog day. We find that small dogs are often less intimidating to puppy newcomers, so that may be a good place to start. As your puppy ages, grows, and develops, we may switch Day's if that's convenient to the pup parent. This will help build their confidence and play preferences change.
PUPPY PLAY TIME
Puppies like to play like puppies! They will run, chase, be chased, grab each other's necks, fall down, bark, trip, pull on each other's ears and tumble around. To pup parents, this play could look worrisome, but this is standard puppy play! The home boarders in the room will monitor your puppy to make sure that he or she is having fun when he or she is playing with the other pups in the room. If at any point your puppy gets scared or overwhelmed, we will intervene.
NAP TIME
Between noon and 2 p.m., each dog is provided some much-needed “me” time, just like children, puppies need more sleep than adult dogs. They also need more time to calm down and relax so they don’t get over stimulated in exciting environments like a playroom. We will closely monitor your puppy and may give him extra rest time throughout the day. This is designed to set him up for success!
LUNCH & MEDICATIONS
Some puppies are fed lunch, so please bring your puppy’s food in a sealed named container with you when you come to us. Each puppy will be fed at the start of naptime and will have plenty of time to digest their food before they are allowed to play again. This private time is also when we administer any medications, if applicable. The playroom is cleaned during this time.
NO NEGATIVE IMPACT ON HOUSE TRAINING
Dogs don’t think about inside vs outside the way people do. They view the world around them through smell, sight and sound in a different way. Their nose will be full of new scents to explore as they meet their new BFFFs. They will see many wagging tails and hear excited yips and words of praise for playing excitedly! Because the sights, smells and sounds of our rooms are different from what they experience at home, you don’t have to worry about it impacting your house training. After years interacting with dogs, we can confidently say that open play at Elite Canine Club, does not translate to dogs going potty in the house.
BOARDING
If your puppy is boarding (staying overnight) with us, he or she will burn off any excess energy during a full day of play. They’ll be tired but happy when they go to bed! Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served, and food is prepared exactly as requested by each pup parent. You may consider bringing a little extra food for boarding as they burn a lot more calories in play than they typically do at home! If you forget your food for meals – no worries! We have food for convenience.
At ECC, our pledge to you is that your puppy will always be in great hands with us. We recommend dogs attend daycare 2-3 times a week to help them become a well-balanced pup. Keeping them engaged with their BFFF (Best Furry Friends Forever) and our family will help them learn positive behaviour and reduce the mischief taking place when left home alone.
